Stand up for yourself

Moment of Style -
Monday, 18 April 2005

During the week I wished for a lot. I had parked in a ¼ of an hour parking zone and I had to buy flowers, chocolates and wine. With the wind blowing my skirt around (my head) I was wishing I had more time, I was wishing I had re-applied my lipstick and I was wishing I had worn more sensible underwear, like maybe, a pair of heavy duty bike shorts!

Stylish Behaviour

I was in the shower the other morning when I had my latest moment of style. Yes, I was in the shower, so, yes, I was naked and I wasn't exactly dressed stylishly and no, I wasn't striking amazing model poses as I shampooed my hair and exfoliated my elbows! I was using a new bottle of shower gel (the most beautiful L'Occitane shower gel I might add) and it was the gel that prompted the moment to occur. The gel was a gift I had received from a stranger in Bangkok airport earlier this year and using it made me remember his truly stylish behaviour.

He was wearing his cowboy hat and his cowboy boots and his cowboy shirt.

Last week, after almost being run over by a car on Brunswick St , Fitzroy, I experienced a wonderful moment of style . I was stepping out of a café following an enjoyable lunch with two girlfriends when it happened. It's funny how I always remember so many moments in my life by picturing what I was wearing at the time or what the person I was with was wearing - I can just hear myself making a statement to the police "I was wearing my Saba wrap dress with my blue heels but I'm just not sure what colour the car was that hit me".

Kerri-Anne goes big and blue

Moment of Style -
Monday, 21 March 2005

This week's moment draws on inspiration from the TV morning show host Kerri-Anne Kennerley. Hang in there! Keep reading, don't stop and gag at the mere mention of her name and the word style in the same sentence. After stumbling across her one morning last week (by stumbling I mean that I am normally far too busy to watch morning television, besides I prefer Bert to Kerri-Anne anyway!) On this particular morning, not unlike any other, Kerri-Anne was trying far too hard. She was wearing a blue floral dress with big blue earrings, a big blue necklace, a big blue bracelet and extremely high pink stilettos that were laced half way up her perfectly over bronzed legs. Notice the over use of 'big' and 'blue' in the one outfit. Bless her heart for her continual efforts to be bright and fun but lets not get carried away now.
